Dr. Kazimierz Pollak, M.D., Ph.D. – orthopedic surgeon, the last assistant to Professor Franciszek Raszeja

Dr. Kazimierz Pollak, M.D., Ph.D. was a student of the renowned serologist and immunologist, Professor Ludwik Hirszfeld, and an assistant to Professor Franciszek Raszeja, with whom he provided assistance to the sick in the ghetto. On 21 July 1942, when assisting Professor Raszeja, he was shot by the SS members when operating on the well-known pre-war art merchant Abe Gutnajer.

Professor Antoni Hlavaty – an outstanding orthopaedic surgeon and scientist from Gdańsk. In celebration of his 98th birthday

The paper presents the private, professional and scientific life of an important Gdańsk’s orthopaedic surgeon and scientist, Professor Antoni Hlavaty, the head of the Clinic for Orthopaedics of Medical Academy of Gdansk in 1967-1990, who in April 2018 will be 98 years old. We remember the sporting – and cultural interests of Professor and the achievements of his son and his grandchildren.

Professor Józef Szczekot (1932-1997) – In Memoriam

Józef Szczekot began his work in the Clinic of Orthopedics in Gdańsk in 1955. He gained his 2nd degree specialization in orthopedics and trauma surgery in 1961. One of the Professor’s main field of scientific research was the Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip. Not long after that, already in 1966, he obtained his doctoral degree from the Medical University of Gdańsk.

Konrad Biesalski – wybitny niemiecki ortopeda, rodem z Ostródy i jego przyjacielskie relacje z polskimi kolegami

Konrad Biesalski urodził się w Ostródzie 14 listopada 1868 roku w ówczesnych Prusach Wschodnich. Studia medyczne rozpoczął w Halle, a ukończył je w 1894 roku w Berlinie. Głównym jego trendem kształcenia były pediatria, chirurgia i ortopedia. Praktykował krótko w Würzburgu, a następnie w Szpitalu Miejskim w Berlinie, gdzie później stanął na czele Departamentu Ortopedycznego.
